VS Code is a powerhouse, but it’s only as good as the extensions you pile onto it. When a "productivity" tool turns your IDE into a sluggish, crashing mess, you need a surgical approach to find the culprit. Here’s how I reclaim my workflow when things go south.

Go to your terminal area, click Output, and switch the dropdown to Extension Host. If an extension is crashing or throwing infinite loops, you’ll see a wall of red text here. I once spent three hours trying to fix a "broken" TypeScript config only to find out my GitLens was failing to authenticate and was spamming the background process 10 times a second.

Profiles Are Your "Clean Slate"

One of the best features added in the last couple of years is Profiles. If I'm working on a heavy React project, I don't need my Python or Go extensions running in the background.
